PASTORAL SEARCH COMMITTEE UPDATE:
After eight months of intensive work, the Pastoral Search Committee moved to invite Pastor Nathaniel Johnson (“Pastor Nate”) to candidate for the position of Senior Pastor of Roseau Evangelical Covenant Church. Pastor Nate is presently serving as a Youth Pastor in Scotland. He accepted the invitation to candidate and arrived in Roseau on March 31st. He spent the next four days meeting and visiting with our church family in a variety of ways. The church family had several opportunities to meet and visit with Pastor Nate and hear him preach and give his testimony. In addition, he spent time in the community observing and learning what Roseau has to offer in terms of housing, school, health care, etc., as well as comparing the city now to when he lived here in the 90s. Pastor Nate returned to his home and family in Scotland on April 5th.
A special congregational meeting was held on Sunday, April 10th where the members of the Pastoral Search Committee recommended to the congregation that Pastor Nate be called to serve as the next Senior Pastor. A motion was passed to vote on this recommendation. The results of the vote were unanimous to call Pastor Nate to serve as the Senior Pastor. Immediately after the meeting a call was made to Pastor Nate in Scotland to officially extend this call. He, without hesitation, accepted the call and he has since accepted the terms in writing.
The planned start date for Pastor Nate is July 25th.
This officially concludes the duties of the Pastoral Search Committee. The committee has worked diligently throughout this process but as Chair Steve mentioned in church last Sunday we became a great “team” as we worked together. The support and prayers of the church body were felt by all the members throughout the process and were greatly appreciated.
There will be many opportunities for our church family to help Pastor Nate, his wife Val, and their three children as they plan their move back to the U.S. and specifically to Roseau. They will be coming with only their personal belongings from Scotland and will need to secure housing along with the usual goods and furniture. If you have any suggestions for housing or other ways you may want to help, please direct these to Tony Fichter, Leadership Council Chair.
